Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre recently came to Stoney Creek, holding a rally that reportedly attracted over 4,500 people.

The event, which was held at modular construction company Fero International (South Service Road near McNeilly Road), took place on Mar. 25 and was one of Poilievre’s first rallies of the election campaign.

Poilievre has since held dozens of other rallies across Canada, with other Ontario visits including Brampton, Kingston, Waterloo, and Windsor.

The rally began with Dan Muys who is the Conservative candidate for Flamborough – Glanbrook – Brant North and incumbent Member of Parliament.

“We had a crowd wrapping around this building out to the QEW. If that doesn’t say that people are ready for Canada First for a change then I don’t know what does,” said Muys.

Union leader Nathan Bergstrand, who is the Business Manager of United Local 67 Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters, followed Muys.

United Local 67 represents workers in Hamilton, Halton, and Niagara regions.

Bergstrand announced that the union endorses Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada.

“A dollar isn’t worth a dollar anymore, groceries have gone through the roof, bills are way up, rent is doubled, and mortgage rates have gone feral,” said Bergstrand.

“Today we face an unprecedented threat to our jobs from the south. Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have weakened Canada and now his handpicked replacement is a corporate sellout of the worst kind,” he continued.

Next up was Ned Kuruc, the Conservative Party candidate for Hamilton East – Stoney Creek, the riding in which the event was held.

Kuruc then introduced Pierre Poilievre’s wife Ana Poilievre, who took to the stage.

Ana Poilievre aimed at Liberal Leader Mark Carney, saying, “Leadership is born from the true love for our country, from patriotism. Leadership is not born from fancy degrees or fancy titles. Leadership is not born from the boardroom of the elites. Leadership is born from those who actually put Canada first like my husband does.”

She then introduced Pierre Poilievre, who spoke on a number of issues including the economy, the housing crisis, Donald Trump, high taxes, unleashing Canada’s energy industries, rising crime, the opioid crisis, Canada’s Armed Forces, and immigration.

Poilievre pointed out that while Carney has repealed the consumer carbon tax, he will be keeping and even raising the industrial carbon tax which will impact industries, particularly those in Hamilton.

Poilievre also reminded the audience that Carney went on television and said that the industrial carbon tax will not have an impact on Canadians, claiming that people do not use steel in their day-to-day lives.

It should be noted that steel is the most important engineering and construction material in the world and is used in cars, virtually all household appliances, and in the construction, transportation, and manufacturing industries.

“Imagine how little you have to know about the economy to think that we can have a modern economic civilization without steel,” said Poilievre.

“Steel is literally the bones of a modern economy. You tax steel, you tax everything. And that is one of the reasons why a new Conservative government will put Canada first by axing the carbon tax for everything, for everybody, for real, for good, for a change,” he concluded.

Speaking on crime, Poilievre said, “Our plan will repeal C-75, the catch-and-release law, and C-5 and we will bring in a new rule: repeat offenders will be ineligible for bail, probation, parole, or house arrest. Jail not bail. And then we will repeal C-83 and we will send [serial killer and rapist] Paul Bernardo back to a maximum-security prison.”
