John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) released their summer flight schedule and also announced that construction work is underway on their multimillion-dollar terminal enhancement project.
The biggest change to the schedule, which was announced in February, is that Porter Airlines will begin service out of Hamilton starting in June.
Porter will offer direct daily flights out of Hamilton to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, and Vancouver.
Porter Airlines’ flights are available for booking now.
Flights from Hamilton International to Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) will run daily starting June 3.
Flights to Edmonton International Airport (YEG) will run daily beginning June 11.
And Porter flights to Calgary International Airport (YYC) will run daily except for Saturdays starting June 11.
Meanwhile, WestJet will also continue to offer non-stop service to Calgary seven days a week, with connectivity to Western Canada.
Additionally, Air Canada and The Landline Company continue to operate their luxury motorcoach service between Hamilton International and Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, connecting travellers to the airline’s global network.
In the second piece of news, the airport confirmed that construction work is “actively underway inside and outside the terminal” as part of their enhancement project.
A press release states that the enhancements will be unveiled this June.
Work will include an updated exterior frontage with new and expanded canopies which will reportedly “improve curbside flow, making arrivals and departures smoother and more convenient.”
The airport will also be “refreshing” interior spaces including check-in counters, passenger screening areas, departure lounge seating and baggage claim.
Next, the airport says that there will be new architectural elements and finishes “inspired by the region’s natural geography” which are meant to complement the airport’s character.
Finally, new digital signage and lighting upgrades will “enhance navigation and overall ambiance.”
Additional improvements to be made at a later date include passenger jet bridges to connect terminals directly to aircraft and additional terminal infrastructure upgrades to “accommodate expected air traffic growth.”
In celebration of the latest developments at the airport, they will be offering all travellers up to 30 per cent off online parking reservations booked through parking.flyhamilton.ca until June 11, 2025.
Cole Horncastle, the Executive Managing Director of Hamilton International, said in a press release, “We’re looking forward to an exciting summer ahead at Hamilton International as we welcome Porter Airlines and complete significant upgrades to our terminal building.”
“These strategic efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to providing travellers with greater choice and connectivity to and from the region, while ensuring every step of the passenger journey is seamless and enjoyable.”
It should be noted that Play Airlines, which has been offering flights to Europe out of Hamilton International since 2023, announced that they will be ceasing operations in the city at the end of April.
