Tammy Hwang’s family immigrated from Taiwan and she initially worked at her family’s business, Babe’s Jubilee Store before working as a Business Development Officer for the City of Hamilton Economic Development Department.

Hwang was elected in the 2022 municipal election in her first run for City Council after incumbent Sam Merulla retired.

During this term of Council, Hwang has voted in favour of increasing Hamilton’s property taxes by 5.85 per cent in 2023, implementing the rain tax stormwater fee program, allowing encampments on public property, including parks, through the Encampment Protocol, collecting the Vacant Unit Tax, increasing property taxes by 5.79 per cent in 2024, and keeping the city poet program in 2025 amid a 5.6 per cent property tax increase.

She voted against increasing the Hamilton Police Service budget in 2023 and 2024 and against a motion to pause AI data centre applications for one year.

More details on her voting record can be viewed on a new website called www.hamiltoncouncilwatch.ca.
