GO Train service at Stoney Creek’s Confederation GO Station officially launched on Oct. 27.

Metrolinx, the Crown agency that owns and operates GO Transit, also announced on Oct. 27 that more train trips were being added to the Lakeshore West line, meaning that trains will stop at Confederation GO Station 95 times per week.

When the original announcement was made on Sept. 29 that Confederation GO would be opening for train service, the province simply said that all existing trains to and from Niagara Falls would stop at the station.

According to the existing schedule at that time, that would have meant that trains would stop in Stoney Creek 42 times per week.

However, starting on Oct. 27, Metrolinx said that they would also be extending seven select trips to and from West Harbour GO on weekdays and weekends to serve Confederation GO.

Metrolinx further announced that, starting on Nov. 1, they would begin to offer eight trips in total between Niagara Falls GO and Union Station each day on Saturday and Sunday, an increase from six trips daily on the weekend previously.

Since all trains between Niagara Falls and Union Station stop at Confederation GO, that means even more stops for riders in Stoney Creek.

With the schedule changes, Confederation GO now offers a total of 13 trips each day, Monday to Friday and 15 trips each day on Saturdays and Sundays.

From Monday to Friday, eastbound GO trains towards Toronto leave Confederation GO at 5:50 a.m., 6:51 a.m., 7:38 a.m. (from Niagara), 11:08 a.m., 2:04 p.m. (from Niagara), 7:07 p.m., and 9:02 p.m. (from Niagara).

Also from Monday to Friday, westbound trains towards Hamilton from Toronto arrive at Confederation GO at 10:30 a.m. (continuing to Niagara), 1:24 p.m., 5:26 p.m., 6:27 p.m. (continuing to Niagara), 8:24 p.m., and 9:31 p.m. (continuing to Niagara).

On Saturdays and Sundays, eastbound GO trains towards Toronto leave Confederation GO at 7:07 a.m., 8:07 a.m., 9:07 a.m., 11:07 a.m., 12:58 p.m. (from Niagara), 5:00 p.m. (from Niagara), 7:07 p.m., 8:58 p.m. (from Niagara), and 11:04 p.m. (from Niagara).

Also on Saturdays and Sundays, westbound GO trains towards Hamilton from Toronto arrive at Confederation GO at 10:30 a.m. (continuing to Niagara), 12:35 p.m. (continuing to Niagara), 4:23 p.m., 6:30 p.m. (continuing to Niagara), 8:45 p.m. (continuing to Niagara), and 10:24 p.m.

Confederation GO also continues to be served by GO bus routes 11 and 12.

Confederation GO has been serving GO bus Route 12 since 2019 and Route 11 since 2021.

The station, which is located on Centennial Parkway near the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), features a fully accessible heated island platform with weather-protective canopies, bicycle racks, a pick-up and drop-off area, and 148 parking spots.

There is also a pedestrian tunnel for easier platform access and direct pedestrian stair access from the platform to Centennial Parkway.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says that the completed station is part of “the largest transit expansion in North America” that is underway by the province.

The opening of Confederation GO marks the first new GO station to open in four years in the province, although more stations will soon follow.

Major construction is also underway at East Harbour GO in Toronto, just east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue, and Woodbine GO in north Etobicoke on Highway 27 between the existing Etobicoke North and Malton GO stations.
